Russell finishes in Top 10 at Spartan Classic

Senior Macie Russell placed ninth for Oakwood/Salt Fork on Saturday (Sept. 23) in the 51^st Spartan Classic girls’ cross-country invitational in St. Joseph.

Russell ran the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 39.09 seconds.

The Comets’ other competitors were Callie Richardson (37^th in 20:23.47), Zoe Moudy (126^th in 25:19.06), Lanie Birge (131^st in 26:16.87), Macie Kinney (141^st in 30:00.27) and Miley Pierce (146^th in 33:17.51).

On Tuesday (Sept 26), the Comets ran second in the five-school Heritage Invitational at Homer Lake.

Russell was the individual winner. She ran the 5-kilometer course in 21:45.3 and won by 72 seconds.

The Comets’ other entrants were Richardson (fourth in 23:54.4), Moudy (13^th in 31:07.7), Birge (14^th in 31:08.3), Pierce (16^th in 37:32.5) and Kinney (17^th in 37:32.5).

The meet champion was Paris with 25 points. Oakwood/Salt Fork had 36 points.

Oakwood/Salt Fork returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 30) in the Oakwood Invitational.
