SJO Tennis defeats Schlarman Academy

St. Joseph-Ogden’s girls’ tennis team recorded its second dual-meet win in as many nights on Wednesday (Oct. 4), posting an 8-1 win over Schlarman Academy at the Danville Tennis Center.

One highlight was SJ-O junior Madison Clampitt winning her first career varsity match. She topped Evy Kelsey 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

Other Spartan winners in singles also registered straight-set wins.

At No. 2, Addison Seggebruch defeated Anna Lehman, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 4, Lauren Lannert topped Teresa La, 6-3, 6-1. At No. 5, Sonia Patel beat Reagan Troglia, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 6, Ainsley Rhoton swept Je’Lanna Tall, 6-2, 6-1.

SJ-O won all of the doubles’ matches.

Lily Rice and Caroline Aden were victorious at No. 1 over Kelsey and La, 8-1.

At No. 2, Ellie Ward and MaKennah Hamilton won, 8-6, over Troglia and Devyn Gose.

At No. 3, Sami Kelso and Sara Kearney scored an 8-2 victory over Izzy Bogen and Tall.

On Tuesday (Oct. 3), SJ-O won two of three doubles matches and edged St. Thomas More, 5-4, at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign.

The Spartans posted wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

The No. 1 duo of Hamilton and Ward held off Lauren Waldhoff and Luciana Grant, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

At the No. 3 position, Kelso and Kearney teamed up for a decision over Lydia Case and Giulia Bedini Jacobini, 6-0, 6-1.

In singles, the SJ-O winners were Lannert (6-3, 6-3 at No. 4), Patel (6-3, 6-0 at No. 5) and Rhoten (6-1, 6-0 at No. 6). Rhoten was making her varsity debut in singles.

On Monday (Oct. 2), SJ-O dropped a 9-0 decision at Urbana.

The Spartans used a different lineup for singles and doubles, giving 12 players a varsity match. At No. 6 singles, Patel dropped an 8-5 decision.

SJ-O (4-8) returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 5) at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
