By Fred Kroner
In the final home meet of her prep career, Heritage senior Lillian Montgomery was the individual winner on Thursday (Oct. 12) in a three-school girls’ cross-country meet.
Montgomery, the lone Heritage runner, toured the 3-mile course in Broadlands in 22 minutes and 24 seconds. She beat the runner-up from Urbana Uni High by 2 minutes and 8 seconds.
In the boys’ meet, Heritage freshman Clark Roland was the individual champion. He was timed in 17 minutes, 3.3 seconds.
Teammates Aidan Ashbrook and Eli Denmark-Collins, were second and third, respectively. Ashbrook, a senior, completed the course in 18:30.8 and Denmark-Collins, a sophomore, finished in 18:52.2.
The Hawks’ other competitors were sophomore Josh Stierwalt (seventh in 20:11.3) and junior Hunter Montgomery (10th in 20:24.3).
Heritage captured team honors, 23-32 over Uni High. Tri-County did not have enough runners to be scored as a team.
There were 23 competitors in the boys’ race.
Heritage will return to action in the Class 1A regional at the 19-school Chrisman Regional on Saturday (Oct. 21).
