Roland advances to IHSA State Meet

Heritage freshman Clark Roland placed 20th on Saturday (Oct. 28) in the Decatur Sectional and earned a berth in the IHSA Class 1A boys’ cross-country state meet.
Roland was timed in 16 minutes, 29.96 seconds on the 3-mile course at South Shores Park. He was the second freshman finisher in a meet that attracted 157 participants.
In the team race, Heritage placed 14th in the 21-school meet with 351 points.
The Hawks’ other sectional competitors were sophomore Eli Denmark-Collins (69th in 17:41.47), senior Aidan Ashbrook (86th in 18:02.39), sophomore Joshua Stierwalt (119th in 18:56.27) and junior Hunter Montgomery (134th in 19:20.76).
The team leaders in the sectional, held at South Shores Park, were Tuscola (74 points), St. Joseph-Ogden (89 points) and La Salette (137 points).
Roland will run in the 10 a.m. race at state on Saturday (Nov. 4) at Detweiller Park, in Peoria.
