Junglas leads Heritage as 2023 season begins

Kaylee Junglas was the top scorer for the Heritage Junior High girls’ basketball teams in both the seventh- and eighth-grade games on Monday (Nov. 6) at Oakwood.
She hit six points in the seventh-grade’s 46-10 loss. Addison Fleming and Makayla Osterbur each tallied two points.
In the team’s regular-season finale, Thursday (Nov. 9) at Champaign International Prep Academy, the Heritage seventh-graders matched their season’s high for points in a 42-32 loss.
Junglas scored 14 points and five other teammates reached the scoring column. Fleming made 12 points, Alisha Alrawahna had two points as did Osterbur. Gracie Latham and Rylen Stierwalt each added a free throw.
Sixth-seeded Heritage suffered a 34-20 loss in a Class 1A IESA seventh-grade regional quarterfinal game on Saturday (Nov. 11) at Milford against third-seeded Prairieview Ogden.
Junglas made a team-best 11 points, followed by Scarlett Eslinger (four points), Fleming (four points) and Stierwalt (one point).
The seventh-graders end the season with a 5-10 overall record.
For the season, eight players hit the scoring column, led by Junglas (112). The team’s other scorers were Fleming (56 points), Eslinger (17 points), Stierwalt (10 points), Alrawahna (eight points), Osterbur (six points), Latham (three points) and Madilynn Roy (two points).

In the eighth-grade game against Oakwood, a 22-6 setback, Junglas hit four points and Reaghan Stierwalt netted two points.
Against Champaign International Prep, Heritage dropped a 46-19 decision.
Fleming had six points. Junglas and Kalyn Miller both contributed four points. Violet Chesnut and Reaghan Stierwalt had two points apiece and Rylen Stierwalt added a free throw.
The eighth-graders are 4-10 entering IESA Class 1A regional play on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 10 a.m. at Rantoul St. Malachy against fourth-seeded Danville Schlarman Academy. Heritage is the No. 5 seed.
