Oakwood opens season with back-to-back victories

The Oakwood Comets opened the boys’ basketball season with back-to-back victories in the Tri-County Turkey Tournament in Oakland.
Oakwood overpowered Martinsville, 72-25, on Monday (Nov. 20) and then blitzed Villa Grove, 68-35, on Tuesday (Nov. 21).
Against Martinsville, Alec Harrison and Carsen Dudley both made 18 points.
Cort Vermillion and Jackson Dudley contributed to a balanced offensive attack with 10 and nine points, respectively.
The team’s other point-makers were Bryson McDaniel (six points), Brody Taflinger (five points), Hayden Thompson (four points) and Brandt Hobick (two points).
Against Villa Grove, Carsen Dudley showed the way with 21 points in his second high school game. Harrison hit 12 points, McDaniel added 10 points and Jackson Dudley chipped in with nine points.
Vermillion ended with seven points and Taflinger tallied six points. Hobick hit two points and Thompson connected on one free throw.
Oakwood (2-0) returns to action on Friday (Nov. 24) with two more games in the Tri-County Tournament.
