Oakwood boys’ basketball wins Tri-County Turkey Tournament

Five players scored in double figures on Friday (Nov. 24) as Oakwood’s boys’ basketball team won the championship in the Tri-County Turkey Tournament at Oakland with an 88-44 triumph over the host Titans in the title game.
The Comets won their five tournament games by an average of 32.8 points per game.
Against Tri-County, Jackson Dudley made a team-high 17 points and was followed by Alec Harrison (14 points), Bryson McDaniel (12 points), Carsen Dudley (11 points) and Brandt Hobick (10 points).
Hobick tallied eight of his points in the second quarter as Oakwood expanded a 17-8 lead after one quarter to 42-14 at halftime.
Ben Darling contributed seven points to the Comets’ season-high point total. Other teammates reaching the scoring column were Derek Drews (six points), Cort Vermillion (four points), Brody Taflinger (three points), Hayden Thompson (two points) and Alex Wallace (two points).
Harrison was selected as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Joining him on the all-tournament team were Jackson Dudley and Taflinger.
The team’s scoring leaders for the week were Carsen Dudley (67 points), Jackson Dudley (66 points), Harrison (60 points) and McDaniel (42 points).
The Dudleys were the Comets’ top three-point marksmen with Jackson sinking nine and Carsen seven. Taflinger and Vermillion drilled five three-points apiece.
Earlier on Friday (Nov. 24), Jackson Dudley meshed a season-high 21 points and Taflinger also produced a season-high with 15 points as Oakwood zipped past Judah Christian, 66-38.
Dudley and Taflinger each downed three three-point shots. Dudley shot the Comets into a 26-6 lead after one quarter, delivering 19 first-period points.
Overall, the Comets nailed 10 shots from beyond the three-point line.
Others hitting from distance were Darling, Carsen Dudley, McDaniel and Vermillion.
Carsen Dudley and McDaniel each hit nine points. Vermillion ended with five points. Darling and Harrison tossed in three points apiece and Hobick contributed a free throw.
On Wednesday (Nov 22), Jackson Dudley (eight points) and Harrison (seven points) combined for 15 first-period points as Oakwood jumped into a big lead over Chrisman and held on for a 60-48 victory.
The Comets led, 23-11, after one quarter.
Harrison hit a team-high 13 points and Jackson Dudley finished with 10 points.
Other scoring leaders for Oakwood were Vermillion (12 points), Carsen Dudley (eight points), Taflinger (seven points), Hobick (five points) and McDaniel (five points).
Oakwood (5-0) returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 28) in the SJ-O Toyota of Danville Classic against Decatur St. Teresa at 8 p.m.
