Oakwood basketball wins first-round game at SJO Classic
For the second consecutive night, Alec Harrison dropped in a season-high point total while leading the Oakwood boys’ basketball team to victory in the Toyota of Danville Classic at St. Joseph-Ogden.
On Wednesday (Nov.29), Harrison hit 24 points as the undefeated Comets dispatched Cissna Park, 64-50.
Jackson Dudley drained four three-point shots and tallied 17 points, 10 in the final period. Carsen Dudley scored 13 points. Brody Taflinger contributed five points and Cort Vermillion added four points. Bryson McDaniel knocked down a free throw.
Oakwood built a 28-20 halftime lead and carried a 44-31 lead into the final period.
On Tuesday (Nov. 28), Harrison scored a team-high 20 points as Oakwood won a first-round game by edging Decatur St. Teresa, 61-57.
Carsen Dudley drilled four three-point shots and ended with 15 points. Vermillion made 10 points. Both Jackson Dudley and Taflinger added eight points apiece.
The Comets made 9-of-12 free throws, including 5-of-6 in the final period to maintain their lead.
Oakwood led, 18-9, after one quarter but St. Teresa whittled the lead to one point at both halftime (29-28) and after three quarters (42-41).
The Comets (7-0) return to action on Thursday (Nov. 30) against Paxton-Buckey-Loda at SJ-O. An Oakwood win would advance the team into Saturday night’s championship game.
