Brazelton and Daly open wrestling season with wins

Senior Holden Brazelton and sophomore Nathan Daly were each 3-0 on Saturday (Dec. 2) as St. Joseph-Ogden opened its wrestling season at home by defeating two of three opponents.
The Spartans handled Danville, 52-26, and Urbana, 58-21, and dropped a 53-19 decision to LeRoy.
Competing at 132 pounds, Brazelton won by pin (in 2 minutes and 42 seconds), by decision (7-1) and by forfeit. All three of Daly’s wins at 150 pounds were by forfeit.
Other SJ-O grapplers with pins besides Brazelton were Alex Vaughn (144 pounds in 3:13), Devan Swisher (165 pounds in 4:38), Carson Sarnecki (175 pounds in 1:13), Khaden Hallowell (215 pounds in 1:10) and Quincy Jones (285 pounds in a team-best 41 seconds).
Teammates who earned non-forfeit wins were Camden Getty (120 pounds, 15-0 technical fall) and Coy Hayes (157 pounds, 19-3 technical fall and 14-6 major decision).
Other Spartans, besides Daly, who received forfeits for their wins were Emmitt Holt (106 pounds), Jackson Walsh (113 pounds) and Lily Rice (126 pounds).
Holt and Corbin Smith (190 pounds) were the only SJ-O seniors in the lineup on Opening Day.
Overall, SJ-O wrestlers compiled a cumulative record of 22-16 with six of the wins by pin.
SJ-O (2-1) returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 5) at home with dual meets against both Oakwood and Clifton Central.
