Knights defeat Gifford at home

Xander Wilson scored a team-high 14 points – including all six in the second overtime – on Thursday (Dec. 7) as the Oakwood eighth-grade boys’ basketball team posted a 46-43 triumph at home over Gifford.
The teams were tied, 35-35, after regulation and 40-40 following the first OT.
The squad’s balanced scoring attack also featured 13 points from Jaethan Perez and 10 from Drake Roberts.
Also reaching the scoring column were Nathan Young (six points) and Riglee Hart (three points).
Perez hit one three-point shot.
On Tuesday (Dec. 5), Perez notched a team-best 15 points as Oakwood dispatched Armstrong-Potomac, 37-23, in Potomac.
Roberts seconded him with 11 points. Hart made four points, Young had three points and Lane Stitt contributed two points.
Roberts nailed a three-point shot.
The Oakwood winning streak was snapped on Monday (Dec. 11) at home against St. Joseph, 37-31.
Young led the way with eight points. Perez and Roberts each totaled seven points. Wilson netted four points, Hart had three and Stitt converted a free throw.
The eighth-graders have a 7-5 overall record.

The Oakwood seventh-graders are still seeking their first win following losses to Armstrong-Potomac (51-6), Gifford (60-13) and St. Joseph (45-14).
Keatyn Bruens, Bryson Deline and Camden Hazelbaker all tallied two points against A-P.
Against Gifford, Deline led the way with nine points. Scoring two points apiece were Hazelbaker and Gavin Wells.
Against St. Joseph, Deline recorded seven points and Owen Fegett chipped in with four points. Jordan Flanagan scored two points and Hazelbaker hit one free throw.
The seventh-graders are 0-9.
Oakwood will return to action in January in the Vermilion County Tournament.
