Oakwood finishes sixth at Bismarck-Henning tournament

Cissna Park knocked off Oakwood, 54-23, in the fifth-place game of the Bismarck-Henning girls’ basketball tournament on Friday (Dec. 29).
Jaydah Arrowsmith led the Comets with 10 points. Rylee Wright connected for seven points. Nikita Taylor scored three points, Gracie Hanner added two points and Bella Bradford hit one free throw.
Cissna Park took a 14-8 lead after one quarter.
In the second round on Thursday (Dec. 28), Oakwood was beaten by Tolono Unity, 49-25, and by Benton Central, Ind., 67-14.
Against Unity, Arrowsmith and Taylor each landed six points. Hanner netted five points. Bradford finished with four points as did Wright.
Unity held a 10-8 lead after one quarter.
Against Benton Central, Hanner topped the Comets with five points. Taylor connected for four points and Taylor Smoot ended with three points. Bradford connected for two points.
Benton Central carved a 29-5 lead after one quarter.
In first-day action at the B-H/R-ATournament on Wednesday (Dec. 27) the Comets split their two games.
Oakwood fell to Lexington, 45-22, but rebounded with its top offensive output of the season in a 55-27 triumph over Armstrong-Potomac.
Hanner was the top scorer (eight points) against Lexington. Arrowsmith totaled six points, Taylor connected for four points, Bradford made two points and Wright also notched two points.
The Comets trailed, 24-7, after one quarter.
Against A-P, Arrowsmith powered her way for 22 points. Taylor contributed 14 points. Smoot tallied six points on the strength of two three-point field goals. They were followed by Hanner (six points), Bradford (five points), and Wright (two points).
Oakwood built a 17-3 first-quarter lead.
On Thursday (Dec. 21), Hanner scored five points to lead Oakwood in a 53-23 loss at St. Joseph-Ogden.
Scoring four points apiece for the Comets were Arrowsmith, Luci Morris, Smoot and Taylor. Bradford accounted for the team’s other two points by connecting on two free throws.
SJ-O led, 11-7, after one quarter and 24-9 at halftime.
Oakwood (5-13) returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 4) at home against Chrisman.
