White leads Heritage over holiday tournament

In the seventh-place game on Friday (Dec. 29), the Danville JV team upended Heritage, 52-40.
All-tournament pick Rylan White led the Hawks with 13 points, including two baskets from beyond the three-point line.
Jacob Bensyl scored eight points, Brennan Struck added seven points and Destin Nickle netted five points as did James Dillon. Anthony Happ scored both of his points from the free throw line.
The Danville JV team created a 21-11 lead after one quarter.
In second-round action on Thursday (Dec. 28), the Hawks fell to Mount Pulaski, 63-30, and bounced back to upend Georgetown-Ridge Farm, 66-62.
Against G-RF, White matched his season’s high with 27 points. He hit 12 of his points from the free throw line.
Bensyl tossed in 10 points, Nickle recorded eight points and Clark Roland chipped in with seven points. Struck scored six points, Dillon contributed five points and Happ connected on a three-point shot for his three points.
The Hawks trailed, 15-14, after one period, but surged into a 35-26 lead at halftime.
White drilled three three-point shots. Besides Happ, Bensyl and Roland also hit from beyond the arc.
Against Mount Pulaski, White tallied a team-high 15 points and connected on two three-pointers. Struck chipped in with five points, Bensyl scored four points, Nickle hit three points, Roland added two points and Dillon converted a free throw.
Mount Pulaski pulled into a 20-4 lead after one quarter.
In first-round tournament action on Wednesday (Dec. 27), the Hawks were topped by Armstrong-Potomac, 51-15, and Salt Fork, 43-35.
Struck scored a team-best seven points. White netted three points. Bensyl and Roland both finished with two points and Dillon added one point from the free throw line.
A-P created a 12-5 lead after one quarter and improved its lead to 27-7 at halftime.
Against Salt Fork, White produced a game-high 18 points. He was followed by Roland (six points), Struck (five points), Bensyl (four points) and Nickle (two points).
The Hawks used a 21-5 fourth-quarter rally to reduce its final deficit to eight points. Heritage led, 6-5 after one quarter, but had fallen behind, 23-10, at halftime.
White dropped in two three-point shots.
Heritage (3-13) returns to action on Friday (Jan. 5) at home against Okaw Valley.
