Oakwood falls in first-round game of VCC tournament

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin knocked off Oakwood, 48-40, on Friday (Jan. 12) in a first-round game of the Vermilion County Tournament at Danville Area Community College.
Jaydah Arrowsmith led the Comets with 21 points. Gracie Hanner added eight points and Nikita Taylor wound up with six points. Bella Bradford contributed three points and Rylee Wright netted two points.
The teams were tied, 32-32, after three quarters.
On Thursday (Jan. 11), Arrowsmith and Taylor each hit seven points for the Comets, who dropped a 36-18 decision at Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
Bradford and Hanner recorded two points apiece.
The Comets trailed, 17-15, at halftime, but were held to one second-half field goal.
Fifth-seeded Oakwood (7-16) returns to action on Monday (Jan. 15) at 6:30 p.m. against second-seeded Hoopeston Area in the Vermilion County Tournament at Danville Area Community College.
