Spartans pick up win over Chillicothe

Seven different squad members made a three-point shot for the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ basketball team on Friday (Jan. 19) in a 79-43 win at home over Chillicothe IVC.
Tanner Jacob dropped in five three-point shots, matching his season’s high.
Jacob scored 19 points, Tanner Siems totaled 13 points while Luke Landrus and Logan Smith each collected 11 points.
Coy Taylor nailed nine points. Both Ryker Lockhart and Tim Blackburn-Kelley netted five points. Will Haley and Logan Lackey each added three points.
Scoring from beyond the three-point arc, besides Jacob, were Blackburn-Kelley, Haley, Lackey, Lockhart, Smith and Taylor.
Siems handled a team-best eight rebounds. Smith posted eight assists and four steals. Both Jacob and Taylor doled out four assists.
On Saturday (Jan. 20), despite a season-high 27 points from Jacob the Spartans lost an overtime decision at Effingham St. Anthony, 81-75.
Landrus posted 14 points. Taylor had nine, Siems and Collin Thomey each scored eight and Smith added seven. Lackey made two points.
Smith distributed eight assists and Landrus had four assists. Siems led the rebounding effort with seven. Jacob drained four three-point shots and Landrus hit twice from beyond the arc.
SJ-O (16-5) returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 23) at home against St. Thomas More. The Spartans are 2-0 in Illini Prairie Conference contests.
