Bloomington Central Catholic defeats SJ-O girls’ basketball

Despite a season-high 23 points from Addison Frick, the six-game winning streak compiled by the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ basketball team was ended on Thursday (Jan. 25) at home by Bloomington Central Catholic, 77-52.
BCC’s halftime lead was 31-26.
Frick’s point total included a season-high five baskets from beyond the three-point arc.
Addy Martinie netted nine points. Timera Blackburn-Kelley and Katie Ericksen both contributed seven points. Addison Brooks scored the team’s other six points, courtesy of two three-point goals.
On Saturday (Jan. 27), the Spartans couldn’t maintain an early lead and fell to Oympia, 56-49 in the IPC-Sangamo Shootout at Maroa.
SJ-O made 15 baskets in the game and 11 were from three-point range.
Brooks (three three-pointers) and Blackburn-Kelley (two three-pointers) both tallied 11 points for SJ-O. Frick (two three-pointers) contributed 10 points and Martinie (three three-pointers) collected nine points.
Ericksen (one three-pointer) finished with seven points and Kayla Osterbur connected on one free throw attempt.
SJ-O led, 12-11, after one quarter, but trailed at halftime, 25-17.
SJ-O (12-10) returns to action on Monday (Jan. 29) at Rantoul.
