Spartans remain unbeathen in Illini Prairie Conference action

Luke Landrus matched his season’s high with 19 points on Friday (Jan. 26) as the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ basketball team stayed unbeaten in Illini Prairie Conference action.
Landrus scored the first seven points for SJ-O, which won at Monticello, 42-39.
Tanner Siems totaled eight points, Tanner Jacob made seven points and Logan Smith finished with four points. Both Coy Taylor and Collin Thomey recorded two points.
Siems grabbed nine rebounds and Taylor cleared seven rebounds. Jacob and Landrus each ended with five rebounds. Smith doled out four assists.
The Spartans led, 15-13, after one quarter and 24-14 at halftime.
On Saturday (Jan. 27), SJ-O went on the road to play a 20-win Morton team, which is ranked eighth in Class 3A.
The Spartans, an honorable mention Class 2A team, fell in overtime to the Potters, 64-58.
Jacob notched a team-high 16 points. Both Smith and Taylor contributed 10 points.
Other teammates to reach the scoring column were Siems (nine points), Thomey (eight points), Logan Lackey (three points) and Ryker Lockhart (two points).
Smith hauled down six rebounds to go with a team-leading five assists. He also secured two steals. Siems and Thomey both cleared five rebounds. Siems collected four assists.
SJ-O (18-6) returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 30) at home against Decatur St. Teresa.
