Knights continue Regional play

After finishing the regular season with a win at home over Chrisman (40-22) on Wednesday (Jan. 17), the eighth-grade Oakwood boys’ basketball team started regional tournament play with a 46-27 IESA Class 3A quarterfinal win over Westville.

When Oakwood and Westville played in December, Westville posted a 44-41 victory.

Against Chrisman, Jaethan Perez totaled a season-high 20 points. He was followed by Nathan Young (five points), Xander Wilson (four points), Rourke Harrison (two points), Riglee Hart (two points), Drake Roberts (two points) and Lane Stitt (two points).

In the rematch with Westville, both Perez and Roberts tossed in 13 points. Stitt finished with nine points, Young had four and Hart had three points while Rudy Hunsberger and Wilson each contributed two points.

The first time Oakwood played Westville, the Knights were led by Roberts’ season-high 22 points. Perez had eight points, Wilson had four points, Young had four points and Hart had three points.

Oakwood (13-8) returns to action in an IESA Class 3A regional semifinal game on Wednesday (Jan. 31) at 6 p.m. at Tuscola against the host school. Tuscola is the No. 1 seed. Oakwood is the No. 5 seed. Westville was the No. 4 seed.
