Comets pick up two wins over the weekend

Oakwood’s boys’ basketball team continued its balanced offensive attack at home on Friday (Feb. 20) in a 67-42 triumph over Iroquois West.
Four Comets scored in double figures and two others tallied at least seven points.
Alec Harrison led the way with 13 points. Cort Vermillion chipped in with 12 points while Jackson Dudley and Brody Taflinger both made 11 points. Bryson McDaniel finished with eight points and Carsen Dudley added seven points.
Also reaching the scoring column for the Comets were Brandt Hobick (three points) and Derek Drews (two points).
On Saturday (Feb. 3), the Comets overcame a halftime deficit at Watseka to defeat the Warriors, 54-52.
Watseka led at halftime, 30-25, but Oakwood nailed six third-quarter three-pointers to move into the lead.
Taflinger led the Comets with 14 points. Vermillion chipped in with 13 points, Jackson Dudley scored 11 points, Carsen Dudley notched 10 points, Harrison had four points and Hobick finished with two points.
Jackson Dudley, Taflinger and Vermillion all knocked down three three-pointers and Carsen Dudley hit two three-pointers.
Oakwood (22-6) returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 6) against Salt Fork. The Comets have hit the 20-win mark for three consecutive seasons and have secured 10 consecutive winning seasons.
Oakwood is 9-1 in Vermilion Valley Conference contests.
