Spartans reach 20-win mark
By FRED KRONERfred@mahometnews.com The St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ basketball team reached the 20-win mark on Friday (Feb. 2) by virtue of a 70-62 win at home over Pontiac.Tanner Jacobs led the Spartans with 24 points. Luke Landrus tallied 15 points, Tanner Siems produced 13 points and Logan Smith chipped in with 12 points.Smith cleared 10 rebounds and narrowly missed a triple-double after finishing with eight assists.Collin Thomey scored four points and Coy Taylor made two points to go with five rebounds.Landrus contributed eight rebounds and five assists.On Saturday (Feb. 3), SJ-O roared past a 20-win Riverton team, 74-49, in an Illini Prairie/Sangamo Conference Challenge game at Monticello.Siems led the way with 15 points and was followed by Taylor (14 points), Smith (11 points), Jacob (10 points), Logan Lackey (eight points) and Landrus (six points).Asher Pruemer and Thomey each recorded three points. Adding two points apiece were Tim Blackburn-Kelley and Parker Fitch.SJ-O vaulted into a 25-15 lead after one quarter and increased its margin to 46-28 at halftime.Jacob, Lackey and Taylor all drained two three-point shots. Pruemer and Siems bagged one three-pointer apiece.Smith produced 12 assists. Siems hauled down seven rebounds. Taylor handed out four assists.SJ-O (21-6) returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 6) at home against Rantoul. The Spartans are unbeaten (5-0) in Illini Prairie Conference games.SJ-O has four consecutive 20-win seasons for years full seasons were played. The 2020-21 season was limited to 13 games due to COVID-19.
