Arrowsmith’s 32 helps Comets win first regional game

By Fred Kroner

Senior Jaydah Arrowsmith poured in a career-high 32 points on Saturday (Feb. 10) as Oakwood avenged two regular-season losses to Hoopeston Area with a 50-37 triumph in a quarterfinal Class 2A regional tournament game on the Cornjerkers’ court.

Hoopeston shot into a 14-5 lead after one quarter, but the Comets had gained the lead, 18-16, at halftime.

Arrowsmith’s previous high game this year was 25 points.

Nikita Taylor contributed 10 points. Bella Bradford registered four points. Both Gracie Hanner and Luci Morris wound up with two points. Arrowsmith hit both of the Oakwood three-pointers.

Oakwood had dropped decisions by nine and six points to Hoopeston earlier in the season.

The Comets (13-19) return to action on Monday (Feb. 12) against Watseka in the 6 p.m. game at Bismarck-Henning. Oakwood was the No. 7 seed, Hoopeston was the No. 6 seed. Watseka is the No. 1 seed.

Oakwood also lost to Watseka in December.
