Sophomore Taylor Owens became the first athlete from the Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestling program to qualify for the IHSA girls’ wrestling state tournament on Saturday (Feb. 10) when she placed second in the Peoria Richwoods Sectional.

Owens, competing at 140 pounds, pinned her way to the finals, ending her first two matches in 3:52 and 3:41. She dropped a 10-3 decision in the championship bout.

Her season record is 4-3. Three of her four postseason wins have been by pin.
