Junior Holden Brazelton registered two wins by technical fall at the IHSA Class 1A wrestling state tournament and finished one win away from earning a medal at 132 pounds.
Brazelton’s wins were by scores of 16-1 and 15-0. He was 2-2 at the three-day event, which ended on Saturday (Feb. 17) at the UI State Farm Center.
His losses were by decisions, 9-2 and 6-3. The 9-2 setback snapped a 31-match winning streak.
He finished the season with a team-leading record of 47-3.
Brazelton was one of three Spartans who competed at state.
Senior Emmitt Holt lost two narrow decisions at 106 pounds, 3-2 in overtime and 5-3 in a match where he scored the first takedown. He ends the season with a 37-2 record.
Sophomore Coy Hayes (150 pounds) was pinned in his first state bout and dropped an 8-3 decision in his second. He wound up with a 29-10 overall record.
