Eight Spartans named to Illini Prairie Conference team

Eight St. Joseph-Ogden wrestlers received attention on the postseason Illini Prairie Conference all-star teams.
Three Spartans were chosen for the first team, four for the second team and one received an honorable mention designation.
The first-teamers featured unanimous selections Holden Brazelton (junior at 132 pounds) and Emmitt Holt (senior at 113 pounds).
The third SJ-O first-teamer was Coy Hayes (sophomore at 150 pounds).
The second-team was headlined by SJ-O athletes Jackson Walsh (sophomore at 113 pounds), Landen Butts (junior at 138 pounds), Devan Swisher (sophomore at 165 pounds) and sophomore Maddie Wells (sophomore at 126 pounds).
The Spartans’ honorable mention selection was Quincy Jones (junior at 215 pounds).
SJ-O finished the season with a 22-13 record in dual meets.
Brazelton registered the team’s best record (47-3) and also led in both pins (31) and technical falls (eight).
Holt had a 37-4 final record and logged 18 pins. He had a 35-match winning streak. Brazelton compiled a 31-match streak.
Hayes finished the year with a 29-10 record.
Walsh’s overall record was 24-16. Butts was 27-19, Swisher was 21-14, Wells was 25-23 and Jones was 21-15.
