SJ-O Spartans Edge Out Columbia 3-2 in Season Opener at Edwardsville

Jared Altenbaumer, Nolan Earley and Will Haley scored runs for the St. Joseph-Ogden baseball team on Wednesday (March 13) in a season-opening 3-2 win over Columbia at Edwardsville.
Earley and Bryson Houchens drove in runs for SJ-O.
The team’s offensive attack featured hits from five different players: Earley, Houchens, Tanner Jacob, Luke Landrus and Logan Rosenthal.
The Spartans pushed across a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to snap a 2-2 deadlock.
Earley pitched the first 3 1/3 innings and struck out five batters while permitting one earned run. Reliever Houchens worked the last 3 2/3 innings and picked up the victory.
He fanned six hitters during his scoreless stint on the mound.
SJ-O (1-0) returns to action on Thursday (March 14) at O’Fallon against Breese Central.
