Champaign’s Annual Prom Dress Giveaway Honors Local Heroes, Unites Community in Acts of Generosity
The much-anticipated dates for the third annual prom dress and attire giveaway have been announced, with the community-driven event poised to bring joy and style to many. Organized by former Champaign County Recorder of Deeds, Mike Ingram, the giveaway has become a beacon of generosity and support within the community, reflecting the spirit of the two women it honors: Tomarra Motley and Jodi Evelsizer.
After the remarkable success of the previous years, which saw nearly 2,000 dresses, hundreds of shoes, dozens of suits and bags, and over 500 pounds of jewelry finding new owners, organizers are optimistic about collecting and redistributing over 1,000 items this year. The event is set to take place at The City Center, a venue generously donated for the cause, showcasing the power of community collaboration.
The giveaway pays tribute to Motley and Evelsizer, two women remembered for their unwavering support and kindness. Ingram shared a heartfelt story about Evelsizer’s dedication, revealing that despite undergoing cancer treatments, she ensured her contributions reached the event. This legacy of giving back to the community is at the heart of the giveaway, inspiring volunteers and donors alike.
Interested parties can find more information about how to contribute or volunteer on the Mike Ingram For Everyone Facebook page and via the hashtag #cupromgiveaway. The initiative encourages community members to donate gently used formal wear and accessories at various local businesses, including Farren’s, Fire Doll, the Up Center at the University YMCA, and others listed on the event page.
The event not only offers a wide range of prom attire but also embodies the hope that every attendee finds something special, be it for prom, graduation, or any significant occasion. Organizers emphasize the inclusive nature of the giveaway, ensuring there’s something for everyone, and affirm the commitment to sustainability by promising that no item will go to waste.
