Oakwood Boys’ Track Team Dominates Relay Events in Season Opener at Tuscola

Oakwood’s boys’ track team secured a sweep of the four relay races on Thursday (March 28) in the season-opening outdoor track and field meet at Tuscola.

The 400-meter relay consisted of Jack Ajster, Connor Moss, Jacob Pricer and Connor Smith. They were timed in 45.72 seconds.

Sharing the baton on the 800-meter relay were Cale Thomas, Ajster, Trevor Hanner and Moss. They combined for a time of 1:43.49.

Featured runners on the 1,600-meter relay were Jakob Rupp, Thomas Wells, Macen Phillps and Smith. Their cumulative mark was 3:40.45.

The winning 3,200-meter relay consisted of Rupp, Lukas Tyas, Phillips and Wells. They were timed in 9:04.75.

Five Comets had at least one top-five performance in individual events.

Bryson McDaniel was second in the triple jump (37-7) and third in the long jump (18-8). Sailer Harrison was third in the triple jump (36-4) and fifth in the long jump (17-9).

Trevor McCall placed fourth in both the 110- (17.78 seconds) and 300-meter (47.70 meter) hurdle races. Both of McCall’s time were personal-bests.

Additionally, Lucas Tyas was third in the 800 meters (2:24.18) and Ben Darling was fourth in the 1,600 meters (personal-best 5:36.43).

The Comets had personal-best times or distances in 12 other events, including Moss in the 100 meters (12.11 seconds).

Saul Carrillo had his best marks in both the 100 meters (12.73 seconds) and the 200 meters (26.92 second). Also achieving career-best times in both sprint races was Will Irick (15.70 seconds in the 100 meters and 32.10 seconds  in the 200 meters).

Other teammates who recorded all-time bests were Jack Ajster (12.76 in the 100 meters), Trevor Hanner (26.29 in the 200 meters), Kaden McDaniel (26.71 in the 200 meters), Kyler Johnson (20.15 in the 110-meter high hurdles and 32 feet, 5 inches in the shot put) as well as Kade Fleming (31 feet in the shot put and 75 feet, 7 inches in the discus).

Oakwood will return to action on Friday (Oct. 5) in the Vermilion County Meet at Salt Fork.
