Spartans Shine at Champaign County Track Meet: Franzen Wins 3,200m, Carter Tops in Pole Vault

Savanna Franzen won an event and teammate Payton Carter tied for first on Saturday (March 30) in the 10-school Champaign County girls’ track and field meet at Urbana.
No team scores were kept in the outdoor opener for the majority of the competing schools.
Franzen was victorious in the 3,200 meters (11:57.21). Carter ended in a three-way tie for first in the pole vault (10 feet, 5 inches).
Two teammates secured runner-up finishes.
In the high jump, Lyla Frerichs was second at 4 feet, 7 inches. In the 400 meters, Helene Jones was timed in 1:06.18.
The Spartans’ top-placing relay was the third-place 400-meter grouping of Carter, Iris Davis, Lilly Ahart and Katie Ericksen. They were timed in 53.15 seconds.
The same four runners combined for a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter relay (1:54.02).
Ally Schmitz recorded a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (18.14 seconds) and followed up with a fifth-place showing in the 300-meter hurdles (53.81 seconds).
Other team leaders for SJ-O were Carter (fourth in the 200 meters in 26.84 seconds), Frerichs (fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.66 seconds), Macy Reed Thompson (tied for fifth in the high jump at 4 feet, 2 inches), Madison Clampitt (sixth in the 400 meters in 1:07.73), Ally Schmitz (tied for sixth in the pole vault at 7 feet), Sophie Schmitz (tied for sixth in the pole vault at 7 feet), Hannah Mock (eighth in the 400 meters in 1:09.10), Jones (10th in the 200 meters in 28.20 second) and Allison Ochs (10th in the shot put at 24 feet).
SJ-O returns to action on Tuesday (April 2) in a five-team meet at Monticello.
