Vermillion Leads Oakwood to Commanding 11-2 Win Over Watseka with Four-Hit Performance

Cort Vermillion stroked four hits on Monday (April 8), as the Oakwood baseball team swatted Watseka 11-2 in Watseka.
Vermillion knocked in three runs.
Vermillion was one of eight Comets to contribute base hits. Collecting one hit apiece were Alex Wallace, Chase Harrison, Jackson Dudley, Carsen Dudley, Bryson Marcinko, Cooper Hutson and Brody Taflinger.
Derek Drews tallied three runs. Jackson Dudley, Taflinger and Wallace all crossed home plate twice. Carsen Dudley and Marcinko both scored one run.
Taflinger swiped four bases and Drews stole three bases.
Alec Harrison (3 1/3 innings) and Wallace (3 2/3 innings) shouldered the pitching load.
Harrison permitted one hit and five walks while striking out six batters. Wallace worked a scoreless relief stint, issuing four walks and fanning five hitters.
On Tuesday (April 9), the Comets lost at home to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, 7-5.
Carsen Dudley, Drews and Chase Harrison all poked two hits. Dudley scored twice and Marcinko batted in two runs.
Chase Harison registered a season-high nine strikeouts in five innings. He walked four batters.
Carsen Dudley pitched the last two innings and collected one strikeout.
Oakwood (5-7) returns to action on Friday (April 12) at home against St. Thomas More.
