Carson Maroon Dominates with Wins in 800m and 1600m Relay at Monticello Boys’ Track Invitational

Carson Maroon won one individual event and helped one relay team to a victory on Friday (April 12) in the 17-school Monticello Boys’ Track and Field Invitational.
Maroon won the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:59.30.
He also teamed up with Colin Wayland, Logan Smith and Spencer Wilson for a victory in the 1,600-meter relay (3:31.69). The foursome won by 4.94 seconds.
Maroon was one of three SJ-O athletes to finish among the top five in the 800 meters. Wilson took third (2:03.98) and Lance Retz was fifth (personal-best 2:06.06).
The other Spartan runner with a top-five performance individually was Jack Fisher, who ended third in the 3,200 meters (10:49.57).
In four field events, SJ-O had athletes among the top five and three of the individuals achieved personal-bests.
Jackson Ennis produced two of the sterling personal-best efforts. He was fourth in the discus (128 feet, 5 inches) and fifth in the shot put (46 feet, 7 inches).
High jumper Tanner Siems finished fourth (personal-best 5 feet, 8 inches) and pole vaulter Charlie Schmitz took fourth (12 feet, 1 inch).
In the non-scored meet, three Spartan relays besides the 1,600 entry ended among the top six.
The 800-meter grouping of Grant Smith, Logan Smith, Wayland and Tim Blackburn-Kelly was third in 1:33.71.
The same four runners teamed up for a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter relay (45.37 seconds).
The 3,200-meter relay, consisting of Colin Burnett, Holden Jones, Nate Farney and Aiden Hundley took sixth in 9:17.27.
Colton Overstreet was among five other SJ-O athletes who placed among the top 25 and also posted career-best times.
Overstreet was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.76 seconds) and 10th in the 300-meter hurdles (46.85 seconds).
Joe Griebat placed ninth in the 1,600 meters (4:25.75), Cyrus Zadeh was 12th in the 3,200 meters (12:10.77), Waylon Jones was 13th in the 400 meters (56.33 seconds) and Jack Wear finished 23rd in the 100 meters (12.49 seconds).
SJ-O will return to action on Friday (April 19) in the Tolono Unity Invitational.
