Oakwood Dominates Track and Field Meet, Sweeping Relays and Winning Individual Events

Oakwood’s boys’ track and field team swept the four relays on Monday (April 15) in a four-school meet at Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
The Comets also had winners in five individual events and cruised to a team victory with 192 points. Runner-up Georgetown-Ridge Farm amassed 141 ½ points.
The Oakwood 400-meter relay, timed in 44.7 seconds, featured Bryson McDaniel, Connor Moss, Jacob Pricer and Connor Smith.
Sharing the baton on the victorious 800-meter relay were Connor Taflinger, Moss, Pricer and Smith. Their cumulative time was 1:38.9.
Joining forces on the winning 1,600-meter relay were Jakob Rupp, Jacob Taflinger, Macen Phillips and Smith. They were timed in 3:40.4.
The 3,200-meter relay included Rupp, Lucas Tyas, Phillips and Thomas Wells. They covered the distance in 9:06.0.
Individually, McDaniel was a two-event winner. He had a personal-best 20 feet, 6 inches in the long jump and captured the triple jump at 40 feet, 3 inches.
Saul Carrillo won the 400 meters (57.2 seconds), Tyas won the 800 meters (2:16.0) and Wells scored a win in the 1,600 meters (5:03.0).
Comet sprinters registered seven personal-bests.
In the 100 meters, Connor Taflinger was second (11.7 seconds), Jack Ajster was sixth (12.4 seconds) and Will Irick was 11th (15.0 seconds).
In the 200 meters, Cale Thomas took second (25.3 seconds), Ajster was third (25.8 second), Carrillo was fourth (26.1 second) and Irick was ninth (31.6 seconds).
Hurdler Trevor McCall set two personal-bests. In the 110-meter hurdles, he was third in 17.5 seconds. In the 300-meter hurdles, he was second in 46.7 seconds.
Trevor Hanner was third in the long jump (17 feet, 7 inches) and Kyler Johnson was fourth in the shot put (33 feet, 1 inch).
Oakwood will return to action on Thursday (April 18) at Westville.
