Carter and Schmitz Lead St. Joseph-Ogden to Strong Showing at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Track Invitational

Payton Carter won two events and Ally Schmitz was victorious in one event on Friday for St. Joseph-Ogden in the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley girls’ track and field invitational.
Carter was triumphant in the 200-meter dash (personal-best 26.83 seconds) as well as in the pole vault (3.38). Schmitz was first in the 300-meter hurdles (personal-best 52.59 seconds).
SJ-O had top-10 finishes by nine other individuals, including a third-place finish by Schmitz in the 100-meter hurdles (personal-best 18.02 seconds).
Lyla Frerichs took fourth in the high jump (personal-best 1.45), Sophie Schmitz was fifth in the pole vault (1.98) and Macy Reed Thompson finished sixth in the high jump (1.35).
Securing eighth-place finishes were Lilly Ahart (personal-best 14.31 seconds in the 100 meters), Iris Davis (personal-best 29.71 seconds in the 200 meters), Kiah Riesel (1:10.25 in the 400 meters) and Hannah Mock (2:46.12 in the 800 meters).
Frerichs ended 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (19.47 seconds).
SJ-O had three relays which fared well.
The 800-meter grouping of Helene Jones, Davis, Ahart and Madison Clampitt was the runner-up in 1:55.54.
Also taking second was the SMR 1,600-meter relay. Sharing the baton were Sophia Kasper, Riesel, Lizzie Clark and Mock. Their combined time was 5:02.88.
Finishing in third place was the 1,600-meter unit of Kasper, Riesel, Clampitt and Jones. Their cumulative time was 4:35.77.
Team honors were won by Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin with 99 points. SJ-O was fourth in the 17-school event with 65 points.
SJ-O will return to action on Friday (April 26) in the Monticello Lady Sage Invitational.

On Saturday (April 20), Savanna Franzen was SJ-O’s representative in the Distance Night at Palatine event.
Franzen finished 15th in the 1,600 meters (5:25.55) and also 15th in the mile run (5:27.52).
