Oakwood Girls’ Track and Field Secures Multiple Top-10 Finishes at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Invitational

Oakwood’s girls’ track and field team produced top-10 finishes in four individual events and two relays on Friday (April 19) in the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Invitational.
Aubri Elliott was a two-event individual placer. She took fifth in the 100 meters (14.15 seconds) and seventh in the 100 hurdles (57.30 seconds).
In field events, Nikita Taylor was second in the long jump (4.62) and Quinn Sperry was tied for sixth in the shot put (8.63).
The Comets’ top-placing relay was the 400-meter foursome of Taylor Smoot, Riley Denhalter, Leanne Snow and Elliott. They were timed in 56.73 seconds and placed fifth.
Oakwood’s 800-meter relay placed 10th in 2:08.77. Smoot, Denhalter and Snow were joined by Taylor for the race.
Oakwood totaled 12 ½ points and finished 13th in the 17-school field. Meet champion Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin amassed 99 points.
Oakwood returns to action on Friday (April 26) in the Monticello Lady Sage Invitational.
