Carson Maroon Sets Personal Best to Clinch 800m at Spartan Classic, Leading Strong SJ-O Showings

Carson Maroon was the winner of the 800-meter race on Friday (April 26) in the 24-team Spartan Classic boys’ track and field invitational at St. Joseph.
Maroon’s time in the race which had 38 competitors was a personal-best 1:58.27.
Two Spartans had third-place finishes and one runner came in fourth.
Finishing third were Charlie Schmitz (pole vault at 13 feet, 5 inches) and Brock Trimble (discus at 150 feet, 10 inches).
Jack Fisher ran fourth in the 3,200 meters (personal-best 10:17.50).
Placing fifth were Tim Blackburn-Kelly (freshmen-sophomore 100 meters in a personal-best 11.88 seconds) and Jackson Ennis (discus at 131 feet, 1 inch).
Waylon Jones took sixth in the freshmen-sophomore 400 meters (personal-best 55.94 seconds).
Blackburn-Kelly had a seventh-place finish in the triple jump (38 feet, 8 inches). Also taking seventh was Ennis in the shot put (43 feet, 5 inches).
The other SJ-O top-10 placers individually were Tanner Siems (high jump at 5 feet, 7 inches), Kyler Swanson (eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best 17.00 seconds), Cam Wagner (ninth in the shot put at 43 feet, 1 inch), Colton Overstreet (10th in the long jump at 18 feet, 6 inches) and Swanson (10th in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.35 seconds).
Four SJ-O relays also fared well, including the runner-up 800-meter relay. The foursome of Grant Smith, Colin Wayland, Logan Smith and Spencer Wilson was timed in 1:32.27.
The same four runners helped the 400-meter relay to a third-place finish (43.67 seconds).
The Spartans’ 3,200-meter relay, consisting of Aden Armstrong, Joe Griebat, Aiden Hundley and Tyler Hess, took sixth in 8:41.81.
Finishing seventh was the SJ-O entry in the freshmen-sophomore 400-meter relay. Sharing the baton were Wyatt Wertz, Overstreet, Brayden Waller and Blackburn-Kelly. Their combined time was 46.74 seconds.
Results were only available for 15 of 18 events. No information was available on the 200 meters, the 1,600 and the 1,600-meter relay.
SJ-O will return to action on Monday (April 29) in the rescheduled Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Invitational.
