Payton Carter Vaults to Victory at Monticello Invitational, Leading SJ-O in Strong Team Performance

Payton Carter won the pole vault on Friday (April 26) in the 19-school Monticello girls’ track and field invitational.
Her winning mark was 11 feet, 6 ¼ inches. There were 12 competitors in the event.
One Spartan who placed among the top eight individually established a personal-best. Madison Clampitt was seventh in the 400 meters (1:05.90).
Three other teammates also placed among the top eight.
Savanna Franzen was fourth in the 800 meters (2:25.20), Lyla Frerichs was fifth in the high jump (4 feet, 7 ¾ inches) and Helene Jones was sixth in the 400 meters (1:05.06).
SJ-O had three relays which fared well.
The 1,600-meter foursome of Carter, Katie Ericksen, Franzen and Jones were fourth. They were timed in 4:31.36.
Featured runners on the fifth-place 800-meter relay were Ericksen, Iris Davis, Jones and Carter. Their cumulative time was 1:53.89.
The school’s 400-meter relay was seventh in 54.38 seconds. Sharing the baton were Carter, Lilly Ahart, Davis and Ericksen.
SJ-O placed seventh with 22 ½ points. Meet champion Normal University High collected 102 points.
The Spartans will return to action on Tuesday (April 30) in the Illini Prairie Conference meet at Bloomington Central Catholic.
