Samantha Dunavan Stretches Hitting Streak to 12 in Oakwood’s Split at Hutsonville Tournament

Samantha Dunavan extended her hitting streak to 12 games on Saturday as the Oakwood softball team split two games in the Hutsonville Round-Robin Tournament.

The Comets, who have won three of their last six games, opened with a 14-2 victory over Wayne City before dropping a 3-2 decision to Palestine. Dunavan was 4-for-7 for the day with three runs scored and three RBI.

Sophia Hart, Gracie Hanner, Gracie Enos and Caydence Vermillion all recorded two hits in the first game. Dunavan had three hits in the opener.

Jada Finley contributed one first-game hit.

Dunavan and Vermillion both drove in three first-game runs. Dunavan and Hart tallied three runs in the opener. Karleigh Nelson, Hanner and Vermillion scored twice apiece in the first game.

Hart socked two doubles in the opener. Hanner and Nelson each swiped two bases.

Enos picked up the pitching win. In four innings, she issued one walk and struck out three hitters.

Against Palestine, Enos’ two hits included a double. She had an RBI. Hanner and Hart scored the team’s runs.

Vermillion pitched six innings and registered nine strikeouts to go with three walks.

Oakwood (6-16) returns to action on Monday (April 29) at Armstrong-Potomac.
