Oakwood Softball Sees Mixed Fortunes with Dramatic One-Run Games Against Armstrong-Potomac and Milford

One day after winning a one-run game, the Oakwood softball team lost a one-run game.
The Comets edged Armstrong-Potomac, 6-5, on Monday (April 29) and then dropped a 9-8 decision at home to Milford on Tuesday (April 30).
Oakwood needed heroics on both the offensive and defensive ends to persevere against A-P.
Samantha Dunavan led off the seventh inning with a triple and scored on Brooklyn Myers’ bunt single.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Bella Bradford made a siding catch in center field and then threw to second base to complete a game-ending double play.
Bradford was 3-for-5 in the game. Dunavan scored two runs.
Against Milford, Dunavan and Madi McFarland both delivered two hits. Gracie Enos knocked in two runs. Caydence Vermillion tallied two runs.
Vermillion pitched two innings of relief at Iroquois West and earned the win. She walked three and struck out three. Enos pitched five innings and notched three strikeouts.
Vermillion took the loss against Milford. She pitched five innings and fanned six hitters. Enos threw the last two innings.
Oakwood (7-17) will return to action on Thursday (May 2) at home against Champaign Central.
