St. Joseph-Ogden’s Relay Team Takes Runner-Up Spot at St. Teresa Invitational

Charlie Schmitz and Spencer Wilson had the top individual placings for the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ track and field team in the 25-team St. Teresa Invitational, in Decatur, on Saturday (May 11).
Schmitz was third in the pole vault (personal-best 13 feet, 8 inches) and Wilson took third in the 400 meters (personal-best 50.53 seconds).
Overall, the top-finishing SJ-O entry was the runner-up 1,600-meter relay unit which featured Colin Wayland, Tim Blackburn-Kelly, Logan Smith and Wilson. Their combined time was 3:27.49.
Other individual leaders for the Spartans were Brock Trimble (fourth in the discus at 156 feet, 7 inches), Blackburn-Kelly (fourth in the triple jump at 40 feet, 4 inches), Jack Wear (sixth in the pole vault at a personal-best 12 feet, 3 inches), Jackson Ennis (eighth in the discus at 139 feet, 6 inches), Nate Farney (eighth in the 3,200 meters in a personal-best 10:51.18), Ennis (10th in the shot put at 43 feet, 1 inch), Holden Jones (10th in the 3,200 meters in a personal-best 11:02.53) and Kyler Swanson (10th in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best 16.88 seconds).
Three other SJ-O relays captured top-10 finishes.
The 400-meter foursome of Grant Smith, Wayland, Blackburn-Kelly and Logan Smith were seventh in 44.04 seconds.
Sharing the baton for the eighth-place 800-meter relay were Wyatt Wertz, Wayland, Logan Smith and Grant Smith. Their combined time was 1:32.78.
Also winding up in eighth place was the 3,200-meter relay grouping of Aden Armstrong, Aiden Hundley, Tyler Hess and Colin Burnett. Their final time was 8:54.08.
SJ-O returns to action on Wednesday (May 15) in the 17-school Rantoul Class 2A Sectional.
