Late Run Ends St. Joseph-Ogden’s Season in Class 2A IHSA Softball Regional Semifinal

Effingham St. Anthony pushed across a run in the seventh inning and made it hold up on Tuesday (May 21) in a Class 2A IHSA softball regional semifinal conquest of St. Joseph-Ogden.

Timera Blackburn-Kelly slugged a home run and stole three bases for the Spartans. She delivered two RBI as did Addison Frick and Emma McKinney. Hayden Dahl, Chloe Harper and Addy Martinie all knocked in one run.

The SJ-O hits were spread between eight players: Frick, Grace Osterbur, Martinie, Halle Brazelton, Dahl, McKinney, Blackburn-Kelly and Harper.

Blackburn-Kelly tallied three runs and Harper scored twice. Frick, Osterbur, Martinie and Dahl all crossed home plate one time.

Madison Stevens pitched the first 1 2/3 innings. She walked no one and struck out two batters.

Blackburn-Kelly worked 4 1/3 innings and issued one walk while striking out five hitters.

SJ-O ends the season with a 30-7 record.

The team’s seniors are Brazelton, Frick, Harper, Grace Goldenstein, Martinie, Stevens and Ellie Ward.

Batting leaders for the season were Martinie (.505), Dahl (.484), Osterbur (.429), Frick (.380), Harper (.352), Emma McKinney (.324), Adelyn Jannusch (.306), Chayse Palmer (.306) and Brazelton (.300).

The Spartans’ RBI leaders were Martinie (54), Dahl (32) and Brazelton (25).

The leaders in runs scored were Frick (49), Osterbur (47) and Martinie (46).

Blackburn-Kelly (18), Martinie (17) and Frick (12) had the most stolen bases, followed by Osterbur (10).

Martinie (23) had the most extra-base hits, followed by Dahl (13) and McKinney (13).

Blackburn-Kelly led the team in various pitching categories: innings pitched (106), strikeouts (157), earned run average (1.45) and wins (14).

Stevens won nine games and Amelia Huckstadt posted six wins.
