Hot Iron String Band to Play at Middle Fork River Preserve

The unmistakable twang of banjo strings and the soulful melodies of an upright bass will fill the air at Champaign County Forest Preserve District’s (CCFPD) largest forest preserve, Middle Fork River Preserve. The Hot Iron String Band is set to dazzle bluegrass enthusiasts and newcomers alike with a special performance that promises a blend of original compositions and classic favorites.

The event, slated to be an enchanting evening, is entirely free.

This four-piece acoustic ensemble is renowned for their lively modern bluegrass style, which borrows from the high-energy, driving tempo of bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe and the free-spirited, swing-infused gypsy jazz of Django Reindhart. The band’s lineup features the eclectic talents of Samuel Payne on guitar, Dustin Norder on mandolin, Jeremy Koch on banjo, and Nolan Lee on the upright bass, creating a rich tapestry of sound that resonates deeply with all who listen.

Event-goers are encouraged to bring their blankets and settle in for a night of stellar musical craftsmanship in one of the most picturesque venues in Illinois. Middle Fork is also designated as Illinois’ first International Dark Sky Park. Visitors are invited to stay past nightfall to view the night sky.
