Exciting New Family-Friendly Event at Lake of the Woods
The Upper Sangamon River Conservancy is partnering with the Champaign County Forest Preserve District to host an exciting and family-friendly event at Lake of the Woods on July 27. This full-day celebration will feature a variety of outdoor activities designed to engage and educate attendees of all ages.
The event kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with the popular “Take Me Fishing” event at the peninsula. Families can enjoy the serene surroundings while participating in a range of activities including fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and more. Throughout the day, attendees can also explore educational exhibits and take part in hands-on learning experiences.

“We’re thrilled to offer this new event in partnership with the Upper Sangamon River Conservancy,” said a representative from the Champaign County Forest Preserve District. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to spend a day outdoors, learn about local wildlife, and enjoy the beautiful Lake of the Woods.”
Food trucks will be on-site from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing a variety of lunch options and treats. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs and make a day of it.
The event will be held at the Lake of the Woods Peninsula, located at 101 N. Lake of the Woods Rd., Mahomet, IL 61853. There is no rain date scheduled, so participants are advised to check the weather forecast and plan accordingly.
