Free Concert at Middle Fork River Forest Preserve: Afro D & Global Soundwaves Return
Mark your calendars for a delightful musical experience with the Champaign County Forest Preserve District. On Saturday, August 17, the serene setting of the Middle Fork River Forest Preserve will come alive with the vibrant sounds of Afro D & Global Soundwaves. This local 6-piece band, known for their unique blend of socially-conscious hip hop, jazz, and funk, is set to perform a free concert that promises to resonate with audiences of all ages.
Based in Champaign, Illinois, Afro D & Global Soundwaves create soulful music that bridges generational gaps, making it an ideal family event. Their positive messages aim to inspire and build a sense of community both locally and globally. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to their music, this concert is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy one of the many talented bands Champaign County has to offer.
The event is part of the “Pedal the Preserves” weekend, a two-day cycling adventure through the stunning landscapes of Champaign County Forest Preserves. The free concert at Middle Fork River Forest Preserve serves as the final stop on the 60-65 mile route, offering cyclists a perfect way to unwind after a day of biking.
The “Pedal the Preserves” event features various route options to accommodate all fitness levels, including 20, 45, 65, and 80+ mile loops, as well as a customizable 2 to 12 mile ride. Each route begins and ends at Meier Field in St. Joseph, IL, with ample parking available. Cyclists will explore the scenic Kickapoo Rail Trail, with longer routes visiting Hidden Acres Park, Homer Lake Forest Preserve, and Middle Fork River Forest Preserve.
Participants can also take advantage of the Bike to Camp option, allowing them to camp under the stars at Middle Fork River Forest Preserve after enjoying live music and food. Check-in times vary between 7 and 9 am, depending on the chosen route.
Prairie Cycle Club members enjoy a $15 discount on registration fees. Membership is open to everyone, with annual dues set at $20 for individuals and $25 for households. For more information on joining the club, visit Prairie Cycle Club.
