St. Joseph-Ogden Girls’ Cross-Country Claims Second at Paris Doc Acklin Invitational with Three Top-10 Finishes

Led by three top-10 finishers in a 99-person race, the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ cross-country team took second on Saturday (Aug. 31) in the 10-school Paris Doc Acklin Memorial Invitational.
Acklin’s son, Jim, is one of SJ-O’s assistant coaches.
Senior Savanna Franzen led the Spartans with a third-place finish individually. She ran the 3-mile course in 20 minutes, 6.20 seconds.
Trailing her by less than 47 seconds were freshmen teammates Tessa Walker (eighth in 20:51.95) and Grace Bressner (ninth in 20:52.32).
Other SJ-O finishers were Abigail Bello (23rd in 23:24.17) and Sydney Steinbach (50th in 25:43.31).
Meet champion Effingham totaled 30 points. SJ-O had 71 points.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday (Sept. 7) at the Chrisman Cowchip Classic.
