By Fred Kroner
Sophomore Madison Farber earned her first varsity win on Tuesday (Sept. 3) for the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ tennis team, but the Spartans took a narrow 5-4 loss to Urbana at Blair Park.
Farber’s win came at No. 4 singles.
Other Spartan winners were Madison Clampitt (No. 2 singles), Sara Kearney/Ella Dietiker (No. 2 doubles) and Shelby Campbell/Claire Hartman (No. 3 doubles).
Hard-luck losers for SJ-O were Sami Kelso (who lost at No. 1 singles in a tiebreaker) and Lily Rice/Makennah Hamilton (who lost at No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker).
SJ-O (0-2) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 5) at Watseka.
