St. Joseph-Ogden Edges Centennial 5-4 in Girls’ Tennis, Secures Win with Strong Doubles Performance

St. Joseph-Ogden won two of three doubles matches on Thursday (Oct. 3) and edged Centennial, 5-4, in a girls’ tennis dual meet at Champaign’s Lindsay Courts.
The doubles winners were MaKennah Hamilton and Lily Rice at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1, and Ella Dietiker and Sara Kearney, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 2.
The match was tied, 4-4, pending the outcome of the Hamilton and Rice match.
The Spartans’ singles winners were Samantha Kelso at No. 1 (7-6 (2), 7-5); Olivia Getty at No. 5 (6-3, 6-4) and Avarie Dietiker at No. 6 (6-4, 8-6.)
Avarie Dietiker is a freshman who started tennis in August and won her first varsity match against the Chargers.
SJ-O (5-6) returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at Atkins Tennis Center against St. Thomas More.
