After more than fifty years as a staple of children’s television on PBS, Sesame Street will make its debut on Netflix later this year. The beloved series will launch its all-new, reimagined 56th season on the streaming platform, accompanied by 90 hours of classic episodes.
The upcoming season will introduce significant format changes, including episodes centered on a single 11-minute story. Fan-favorite segments like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will return, alongside new interactive experiences such as Cookie Monster’s very own Cookie Cart and Abby’s Fairy Garden.
Episodes will also feature innovative to-camera moments, inviting viewers directly into the action, and will utilize animation overlays and visual effects, such as wand sparkles, bubbles, and confetti, to add extra excitement and magic to the storytelling. A new animated segment, Tales from 123, will take viewers inside the iconic apartment building where Elmo, Cookie Monster, and friends reside.
Netflix will hold exclusive worldwide premiere rights for the new season, but episodes will also be available the same day on PBS stations and PBS KIDS digital platforms across the United States, ensuring that Sesame Street’s mission of accessible early learning continues for all children, free of charge.
In addition to the show, Netflix has secured the rights to develop video games based on Sesame Street and Sesame Street Mecha Builders.
The new season is produced by Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind the iconic series.
