I-57/74 Interchange Ramps Reopen Tonight in Champaign

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced that two key ramps at the I-57/74 interchange in Champaign will reopen to traffic tonight, June 3. The newly completed ramps include the connection from northbound Interstate 57 to eastbound Interstate 74, as well as the I-74 eastbound off-ramp at Prospect Avenue.

These reopenings mark the third new ramp completed as part of the ongoing I-57/74 interchange reconstruction project, a significant infrastructure effort aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the region.

The project is part of the broader Rebuild Illinois initiative, which is investing $33.2 billion into transportation infrastructure across the state. Through the first five years of Rebuild Illinois, approximately $16 billion has already been allocated to improvements on 6,541 miles of highway, 686 bridges, and 986 additional safety upgrades statewide.

The I-57/74 interchange reconstruction is a multi-year project designed to modernize one of central Illinois’ most important highway junctions. Over the next six years, IDOT plans to continue improvements on more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois program.
