Two People Hospitalized After Shooting Involving Federal Agents in Portland

Two people were hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a shooting involving federal agents in Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood, authorities said.

Portland Police officers responded at 2:18 p.m. to the 10200 block of Southeast Main Street on a report of a shooting. Officers confirmed that federal agents had been involved in the incident, though Portland Police were not party to the shooting itself.

Within minutes, officers received information that a man who had been shot was requesting help in the area of Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside. Police responded and located a male and female with apparent gunshot wounds.

“Officers applied a tourniquet and summoned emergency medical personnel,” according to a Portland Police statement. Both patients were transported to the hospital, though their current conditions remain unknown.

Portland Police have secured both shooting scenes as investigators work to determine the full circumstances of the incident. East Burnside Street is currently closed westbound between Northeast 145th Avenue and Northeast 148th Avenue.

Portland Police Chief Bob Day acknowledged the gravity of the situation and the community’s concerns. “We are still in the early stages of this incident,” Chief Day said. “We understand the heightened emotion and tension many are feeling in the wake of the shooting in Minneapolis, but I am asking the community to remain calm as we work to learn more.”
