Three Comets earn All-County recognition

The Comets were edged by Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin for team honors in the Tuesday (Oct. 27) rescheduled Vermilion County girls’ cross-country meet at Kickapoo State Park.
B-H/R-A had a team composite of 27 points. Runner-up Oakwood had a final score of 28 points. They were the only two schools to field full teams.
The two Oakwood/Salt Fork runners who have qualified for Saturday’s Class 1A IHSA sectional meet at Decatur were the team leaders at County.
Macie Russell led a 2-3-4 finish by Oakwood/Salt Fork. She was the runner-up in the 3-mile race, finishing the course in 21 minutes.
Allie Morris was third in 21:44. Mackenzie Russell was fourth in 22:31. All three earned all-County recognition.
The team’s other competitors were: Gracie Jessup (14th in 25:41), Shelby McGee (15th in 25:56), Kalie Tison (17th in 26:46), Aaliyah Denius (21st in 29:38) and Cassie Fugate (23rd in 30:13).
The meet was the final one of the season for the full team.
