Oakwood Grade School and Junior High moves to remote learning until Nov. 29
The Oakwood School District will transition to full remote learning through Nov. 29 after staff, administration and students have tested positive for COVID-19 or been exposed.
In a letter to parents on Monday, Superintendent Larry Maynard said 14 staff members at Oakwood Grade School are either identified with a positive test or a close contact and are in quarantine.
“This situation has also included both principals and our nurse which has impacted the operations of our grade school office,” Maynard reported.
“This also brings us to approximately 45% of our teachers/staff out at the grade school and no administrators or nurse on campus to supervise the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.”
At Oakwood Junior High School, 3 staff members have been identified with a positive test or a close contact and are in quarantine.
“This situation includes our principal which has impacted the operations of our junior high school office and the supervision and wellbeing of our students and staff,” Maynard wrote.
As of Nov. 17, Oakwood High School was not in a similar situation, and will continue with their hybrid learning model.
Maynard wrote that Oakwood Grade School and Junior High staff do not have to report for Remote Instruction. Essential workers, including the custodial and kitchen staff will report for normal work hours for the continuation of extensive cleaning and food distribution operations.
Food service remote meals will continue to be monitored; should the numbers increase significantly, the schedule for pickup will be adjusted accordingly.
