St. Joseph kids step up to promote The Wheelhouse

Everyone has the ability to make a difference.

For Lily and Brynn Jones and Mia and Ellie Miller, it did not matter that they are children; that they have limited funds; or that they do not own a restaurant, they knew that they could do something to help their friends Ryan and Abbie Rogiers, owners of St. Joseph’s Wheelhouse.

“We love Abby we also like Ryan because he’s nice,” Mia said.

The girls came together to make a 45-second promotional video for the Wheelhouse as the Rogiers’ business struggled under COVID-19 restrictions.

“It’s important, especially in these hard times, that we support local restaurants,” Lilly said.

Their energetic production included a celebratory Wheelhouse dinner at home, information on how to order and a play-jaunt in the car.

Mia said this was their first commercial, but they “hope to make a movie soon.”

Brynn enjoyed learning about how to edit videos to make the commercial happen.

“I just tinkered around,” she said. “I finally learned how to do it. Surprisingly, I didn’t need any more help.”

The creative process was a group effort, though. After they decided to showcase what the Wheelhouse has to offer, the girls talked about how to move their commercial along before shooting each segment.

With 200 views, the girls have felt the community appreciated their efforts.

Mia said they just wanted to “bring joy to people and to make them happy.”

“Our family and friends loved it. We love seeing their faces light up with joy and happiness,” Brynn added.

It’s kind of the same feeling Lily, Brynn, Mia and Ellie get when they get to eat at The Wheelhouse.

“We haven’t been there much since COVID, but we really like the chicken, potatoes, mac and cheese and the burgers,” Brynn said.

“And our parents absolutely adore the alcoholic beverages. It’s true,” Mia said.
